Do I need a lawyer to administer a trust?

California law does not always require a lawyer, but most trustees hire one because trust administration involves legal duties, deadlines, tax filings, creditor procedures, and potential liability exposure.

Even well-meaning trustees can create problems by making premature distributions, mishandling investments, or failing to properly communicate with beneficiaries. Experienced legal guidance often helps trustees avoid costly mistakes and family disputes.
