What’s the difference between a will and a living trust?

A will is a legal document that directs who receives your assets after death, but it must go through probate court, which can be slow and expensive.

A living trust also distributes assets but does so privately and without probate. A trust also protects you if you become incapacitated, allowing your chosen trustee to step in and manage things without court involvement.
