What should a trustee not do?

A trustee should not mix trust assets with personal assets, favor one beneficiary unfairly, ignore communication obligations, make reckless investments, or use trust property for personal benefit.

Trustees should also avoid making premature distributions before evaluating taxes, debts, creditor claims, and other legal obligations. Even innocent mistakes can create personal liability if fiduciary duties are violated.
