The seriousness of a medical procedure can spur people into writing a will and protecting their family.
An entertainer recently came to the realization of the importance of a will, prior to having a medical procedure, according to the Wills, Trusts & Estates Prof Blog in “Selena Gomez BFF: I Wrote My Will Before Transplant.”
The entertainer was Selena Gomez, who has been diagnosed with Lupus disease which can be very debilitating and result in many different medical complications.
For Gomez, it resulted in her kidneys starting to fail and in needing a kidney transplant. Luckily for her, her best friend was a match and the friend agreed to donate.
The friend stated that she had to write a will, and which was when she first thought about the possibility that she might not survive.
This is not that unusual.
For many people, writing a will and creating an estate plan means they have to think about the possibility that they will pass away.
That is an uncomfortable thing to think about for some people, so they avoid the subject and do not get estate plans.
Regardless of whether people want to think about it, we are all going to pass away.
It is better to pass away after getting an estate plan.
An estate plan is important for having a say in the distribution of your assets after you pass away. However, it is also a good way to protect your family.
